Does This Bible Verse Indicate God Wanted to End the Feast and Sabbath Days?
There is an argument stating God’s Sabbaths and Feast Days were prophesied to be abolished. The decree of this prophecy is found in Hosea 2
Hosea 2:10-13
10 Now I will uncover her lewdness in the sight of her lovers, And no one shall deliver her from My hand.
11 I will also cause all her mirth to cease, Her feast days, Her New Moons, Her Sabbaths-- All her appointed feasts.
12 "And I will destroy her vines and her fig trees, Of which she has said, 'These are my wages that my lovers have given me.' So I will make them a forest, And the beasts of the field shall eat them.
This Bible verse is used to say that God was telling Israel ahead of time that He would be ending the Feast days and the Sabbaths. However, If we continue to read verse 13, we see what God really meant when He said He was going to cause the Sabbaths and Feasts to cease:
13 I will punish her For the feasts of the Baals to which she burned incense. She decked herself with her earrings and jewelry, And went after her lovers; But Me she forgot," says the Lord.
The feasts, or days of the Baals are what God was referring to. In verse 10 God states that Israel will be uncovered in the sight of her lovers and as we read we see the lovers are the false idols that Israel is worshiping instead of the God of Abraham. The nation of Israel was committing spiritual adultery with the Baals they had created in their land.
