Saturday Sabbath vs Sunday Sacredness

Revelation 3:14-16

14 "And to the angel of the church of the Laodiceans write,' These things says the Amen, the Faithful and True Witness, the Beginning of the creation of God:

15 I know your works, that you are neither cold nor hot. I could wish you were cold or hot.

16 So then, because you are lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot, I will vomit you out of My mouth.

The church of Laodicea is being called out for being lukewarm. This was a stark warning and a call for change in this church. Initially when I read this I wondered if any of these churches that were given warnings had listened and changed their behaviors. This particular church’s behavior, however, did not improve as time passed, but rather, we see the bad seed sown by this church has reached as far as most churches in Christianity today.

The church in Laodicea remained active after the majority of churches in Asia had vanished, according to church history. Laodicea was the site of a church council, important for its church rulings around A D. 300. The Council of Laodicea produced 60 rulings, also known as cannons, which covered a broad range of topics. One of the most important rulings by this governing body was the changing of the Sabbath day from Saturday to Sunday.

let’s review Laodicea A D. 336 and the book: The Convert's Catechism of Catholic Doctrine. This book explicitly speaks of how the Catholic church changed the Sabbath day from the 7th day to the 1st day and tells the reader that the Catholic church had the authority to do so. Read below:

The Catholic church does not hide the fact that they changed the Sabbath day from Saturday to Sunday and claimed to have the authority to do so. This means that for hundreds of years, after Jesus died and rose, his followers were observing the Sabbath, that is, right up until this point in history.

When churches began to branch off from the Catholic church, they kept the “tradition” of observing the “Lord’s Day” rather than honoring the Sabbath day. Jesus has harsh words reserved for this type of behavior, that is, honoring man’s traditions above God’s commandments:

Mark 7:6 & 7:13

6 He answered and said to them, "Well did Isaiah prophesy of you hypocrites, as it is written: 'This people honors Me with their lips, But their heart is far from Me.

7 And in vain they worship Me, Teaching as doctrines the commandments of men.'

8 "For laying aside the commandment of God, you hold the tradition of men

13 making the word of God of no effect through your tradition which you have handed down. And many such things you do."

Jesus was vehemently opposed to changing God's commandments and elevating man's doctrine above God’s word.

Was the Sabbath just for the “Jewish” people? Is it not meant for the people of today, post-resurrection?
